What do you see? What do you wonder? What can you infer from looking deeply at this image?
We take life for granted sometimes and do not think about the world around us and how others are feeling or living. This image has been taken in New Delhi, India. Children play outside their slum homes directly opposite the local primary school, where they attend classes for only half a day because of a shortage of places.
Please reflect on this image.
Think and record:
- What do you see in the picture?
- What do you wonder or what questions do you have about the picture?
- What do you really think is happening. Make some inferences about what you might know.
- You should have 3 answers at least for each question
Wow, we are so lucky! I hope we can send India a package for more supplies.
What do you see? I see a poor village that respects others because they aren’t fighting and they are sharing the clothes line and their own territory because they have different spots of where they hang the clothes up. What do you wonder? I wonder if they don’t care if they are poor because they have smiles on their own face. What can you infer from looking deeply at this image? I infer that they are poor because it looks as if the building has been destroyed in the past and never has been fixed up. It might be a big advantage for them because they are the closest to the school.
Kayleigh what a wonderful reflection. I think there is so much to view and analyze. We will look at this further tomorrow. From Mrs Joyce
Thank you,
I have lots more over today.
I observe a satalight dish on the side of a house.
I observe a fish tank in the last house.
I observe a boy playing with his colourful rattle.
I observe people up on the roof top hanging their own washing.
I observe a lady feaching a pale of water.
I observe a number plate. A2-1828
I wonder if the house has access to the radio because they have a satalight dish.
I wonder if there is a limit of how much water you are allowed to have?
I wonder if anyone has fallen off of the roof top?
I wonder if there is a certain age to go to school?
I wonder if the number plate is the number of the house and area of the house?
I infer that a bird lives in the giant nest.
in the house because she is doing her dishes outside.
I infer that there is one tap for each house.
I infer that the end house has its own fish tank for food.
I feel that we should give them better resources for clothes lines and a better time of school.
My Reflection!!! 😀
What I think is happening is that they are packing up from a festival because there are lots of things on the ground like pots and pans so I think it was a food festival that had the school students in it because the girl is in her school uniform. The lady is also washing the dishes on the street so I think I have proven my point because it all adds up. Kinda. There is lots of washing drying on the walls so maybe they were tea towls or cleaning fabrics that they used that last night for the festival.
I think that it is a wars zone and that we need to get some supplies for them so they can have a better home and life to live. They are a poor country because they don’t have clothes lines and resources to hang things and put things. I think we need to help them and give them hope in life.
I think that in the picture the people are poor and there houses are poor and NOT safe for families to live in. I think that the lady is washing her children and dishes in the water at the water pump out the front of the house. I think that it might be in the slums because of looking at the picture it looks dirty and war torn.
Reflection!!!!!
I think that what really is happening for them is just another normal day. I think that they are poor but the satellite makes you wonder if they are poor. I would really like to know what the school looks like because if the houses look like that imagine what the school would look like. I think that there is a age what you have to be to go to school becuse the children that aren’t in school uniform look really young even to go to school. I wonder why they dont have doors? I think that they dont have doors because they don’t have anything to build with.
. Are the kids safe on the broken roof. How do they live with the broken roof and no shoes.
How do they get pots. How do they live in a tiny spot 1kid and 2 adults. Do they get broken in to.
I see,
Wreaked Buildings,
Dirt and Ash,
Kids on the Roof,
Unhappy Kids,
I wonder why are their homes a mess and do they have a cloths line?
I think that these people used to be homeless and only could afford these houses. They have a poor country people all the matirials that they have and I think that we all should help them so they can live a life just like us. I feel devestated because they don’t have better homes like us.
The kids are playing outside and thiers a lady washing her dishes with the tap on the street with her kids or not and I think they deserve a better home and water sauce because water out of a tap is unhealthy.
Why is this country so poor? Do you now why there is kids everywhere and only one kid is in school uniform. I think there isn’t much kids at school.
I observe a child in uniform, clothes hanging off the roof, a kid in his under wear, children, adults, a broken house and people standing on the roof.
I wonder why people are standing on the roof? Why is there only one kid with school clothes on, I wonder if there’s a kinder for the little babies, what age do you have to go to school, are they all the two lady’s children and are they all in one family?.
I infer that there is fishes in the tank in the broken house and the kids belong to the two ladys.
Observe: I see 1 girl in her uniform, sheets and clothes hanging off the roof, children and adults standing on the roof, broken houses.
Wonder: I wonder why only one girl is in her uniform and not the others. I wonder why there are people on the roof. I wonder if they have any clothes lines.
Infer: I infer that the other children don’t go to school because of their age, or they’re going to the afternoon school and going to get ready later. Maybe they don’t have uniform because there poor and can’t afford it. I think they might be up on the roof because they are hanging up or taking washing down. Or they could be fixing something on the roof, maybe they are just up there because they have nowhere else to go. I don’t think they have clothes lines because they have their clothes/sheets hanging over the house to dry.
I feel sorry for this country or place because everything is broken and we need to help them out.
I wonder if the girl is going to school. I see damaged houses. I infer that their country is poor. I wonder what the children are doing on the roof. I understnd that their country is poor.
What I see, well I see. Kids on rooftops, Blankets and towels hanging from the rooftops, One person in school uniform, A lady doing the dishes outside and a stairway to the rooftop. What I wonder, well I wonder. I wonder why is there only one person in school uniform? I wonder why are children on the rooftops? Why is a lady washing her dishes outside? Why is there numbers on a wall of a house? I say that I looks like a war zone since not much money goes into family and the become really poor.
I can observe towels, cloths, crumbled bricks on the ground, demolished windows with wood over the top of them, an old areal and lots of kids standing around the house.
How many people would be living in that house? I don’t think many people would be living in that house because its way to small. How much electricity would be in one house? I think there would be just a TV and that’s it.
I think those people on the roof are homeless because I can’t see their house anywhere.
I can see kids at school.
I can see kids playing at there house.
I can see broken breaks.
I wonder do they have school uniform?
I wonder do they have money?
I wonder if they are at home?
I infer that they are poor.
I infer that the school is falling a part.
I infer that kids are playing in the back ground.
I see kids with a school clothes,a woman with a child, kids and a man on the roof,a woman doing dishes, towels and blankets,no doors, children on the top of the roof, baskets, clothes, plants, towels, pots, plates.
I wonder why the kids are on the roof?
Why are the kids on the roof?
Some kids live on the roof.
The kids might be play.
They might have little sisters or little bothers and big sisters or bothers.

What do you really think is happening. Make some inferences about what you might know.
I think that the man is slack of because he didn’t get any sleep.
I think that the people that are on the roof live on top of them like flats.
I think that the older woman is the mother and she has to do the house chores and the woman has to look after the children why the man can just slack of and doze to sleep.

1. What do you see in the picture?
1I can see some children on the roof of a building who might have just come back to their homes and are just watching the other people go to school, otherwise, they could be people who don’t go to school.
2 I can see a girl in her school clothes. That might be because she is late home because her teacher wanted to talk to her.
3 I can see some towels hanging from one of the buildings. That might be because the people who own them don’t have a clothes line to hang them on.
2. What do you wonder or what questions do you have about the picture?
1 why is there a boy in his under wear standing in the back ground holding a hose?
2 why is there a washing basket tipped upside down when there might be washing there resting on the dirty surface of a wall that may have been there for years?
3 why is there a nest of sticks on one of the roofs?
3. What do you really think is happening? Make some inferences about what you might know.
1 I think that the girl with the pan in her hand is washing the dishes.
2 I think that the girl on the chair is knitting a jumper for one of her children to go to school with because it is getting really cold where they live.
3 I think that the boy with the hose is filling up his family’s water tank because the hose looks like it’s attached to the wall, so it could be attached to the hose in the other end of the photo.
What do you see in the picture? I see people with broken houses.
What do you wonder or what questions do you have about the picture? I wonder why do they live in a broken house.
What do you really think is happening. Make some inferences about what you might know. I think people are trying to fix their houses.
What do you see in this picture? i see people in the rugged street, a woman trying to make her washing unfleak, children playing on the rooftops far from below, chimneys full of sticks, rooms without doors.
