Students were asked to reflect on the character of the lost thing from Shaun Tans short film.
Mrs Joyce felt disappointed with people’s efforts to think deeply, so the students of 5/6j were faced with rectifying their work. What unfolded was excellent thinking and evidence of student learning.
Here are 5/6js reflections
What change with me was I wasn’t looking for short cuts like what I was doing it at school I wasn’t looking for away out and I wasn’t looking at it closely so when I went home I was looking at it deeply and wasn’t looking for short cuts like I was.
My response changed indeed because as I was doing this media for my homework, I would get inside my characters shoes and then think about the character traits as I was watching the small film of the lost thing! That made me think more and write more thoughts and answers on my piece of paper in front of me! This is my strategy that made my new post of my character traits much more successful!
That’s an enthusiastic comment!
My thinking changed a lot because I just put all these words together and got it done but then I realised that Mrs Joyce expected more of us because we are 56’s and we need to do presentable work and do it good! My strategy was using descriptive language that helped me a lot!
My response change because I added more detail to my work by putting more evidence and putting more of my thinking in to it. I put my opinion into my work so it add it more interesting. I looked closer into the film to get more out of it. I also used the sticky notes and put the feelings down as I was watching the film.
That’s great Corey!
I change my work by putting lots of evidence in my work I think my work was better then yesterday
Because I put lots of work and time I’m my work and I made
It presented for my writers gift and I didn’t, take shot cuts and I use watch the thing again and try my best to get my work done.
I used a thesaurus to help me find better words.
The new words help me under stand the lost thing better
What changed was that on Monday some people were a bit to lazy to think deeper into the media, and one of them were me. So when Mrs Joyce told us how disappointed she was I felt like I wasn’t doing up to my slandered. So I didn’t get to watch the video again but I changed my words to descriptive words and I put my self into the things shoes and I thought deeper into the media. But what I think changed is that we were to lazy and use short cuts and when we heard Mrs Joyce, I think that most of us didn’t want her to be disappointed in our home. So then when she reads it she will be blown away.
Mine has changed lots because I thought more deeply into what the film had to bring, I used more evidence and the movie helped me with that because it shows how the character is actually feel from the facial features and body movement instead of just writing that shows no expression. In my character traits from last night I used more evidence, connections because you can notice them more in the film, I didn’t take any short cuts and got to the expectations that were needed. I tried to watch it deeply and find every little thing to put in it.
My response changed because I wrote notes to use for my 3 character traits and I also rewatched the video and stopped it at certain points to think deeper into what the narrator was saying. I also think that when I watched it I looked more at the lost thing that I did at the start when I just watched and skimmed over the video. It also changed because I used the emotive words from a dictionary to make it more descriptive.
My changed thinking from Monday did not do much for video.
I had a thesaurus for beater words then the words then I had.
Some times I you’d the dead words and emotive words.
And I also try to take a lot of the dead words out of my work
And I remeber the charts around our room.
Some strategies that we can use to respond to media with can be what we are thinking not what someone else is thinking.
Understand what’s going on in the media.
Change your thinking and ideas
See deeply into the video
Use resources around the classroom and the emotive words
Hello Mrs Joyce.
Using media let me to dig deeper into the character. It has changed because I have evidence if how where and when it happens through out the story. I was allowed to stop it at certain points. I used the dictionary to make the traits more interesting words for the lost thing.
This helped me out a lot since I had a lot more time today so I could think more things about the film like things I didn’t notice before and replacing the words with the thesaurus! And thinking more deeply about what I was writing
What changed for me was the amount of righting I did and more explaining about the movie of it because that is our task. I made an effort on my work and tried hard. My strategies were finding key words using evidence and using these things emotive word chart dead word chart to see what the dead words were.
It was great to see everyone improved on what they did today and now they know not to mess with Mrs Joyce because she makes you do work guys so watch out and now everyone’s character traits are awesome so great job guys.
