Students of 5/6j do you know what Yarn bombing is? Maybe you could research and find out more.
Our friend Mrs Price knows lots about ‘Yarn Bombing’ maybe we could ask her to help us understand what this trick is.
Take a look at Mrs Sleswick and students from our school helping complete the Yarn Bombing experience.
DIdn’t know you had taken up crochet or knitting Mrs Joyce, love yarn bombing such a great idea!
Not me but our wonderful Welfare team of Mrs Sleswick and Mrs Sandy. I heard about in Qatar what a great idea 😃
You’re full of surprises Mrs Joyce!!! LOVE the fact that your school has knitting in your yard!! I prefer to call it ‘Surprise Knitting’ because I love the surprise element and also because I’m against war so bombing is not good to me…however that seems to be the popular name for it. The idea is just to make people smile!!! It is so silly to see knitting in and on places unexpectedly that people just have to smile. It brightens up a lot of dull and uninteresting places, and it appears unexpectedly! For some people it is more interesting than knitting jumpers etc and basically it’s a great way to keep the skill of knitting alive and well! Grade 5/6, how many of you can knit??? Finger knitting is great fun and can be extended to 4 finger knitting. The children at Jindivick knitted a bike earlier this year for the Creative Gippsland Gatescape project. However, be warned, some people don’t like it at all! Can you think why??? Finally, some people call it Granny Graffiti…now you really are laughing aren’t you?
Apparently yarn bombing is graffiti that is knitted on to things if a spray can is not handy.

Apparently “Yarn Bombing” isn’t just for trees! It can be used on all different things! Take a look at the pic’s up the top!
Wow the yarn bombing looks great. I love how they use it to make people smile. I would live to try and yarn bomb I think it would be very fun to. Maybe our grade should try and yarn bomb some of the school and see what people think of it.
What a great idea!
The bombing looks amazing, and like it has taken a lot of planning to pull this of, I really enjoy what Mrs Sleawick has done and that she has made an master piece of knitting.
Those colours are so bright in my opinion! I think that you have made this tree come alive because mostly when people walk pass trees they just don’t care about it and just walk straight past the tree with out any care! But with this one I thin that the people that walk through the school on the weekends can stop straight away and admire those trees and the rails! That’s what makes the trees so alive and interesting! I think that these trees will go out on the news and internet world wide! I think that Bonnie, Sunday and others did a great job on these trees! I am also so surprised that you used the weekend to just do this wonderful thing that I think is the most amazing sight I have ever seen! I am so very proud of all of you that attended this event! WELL DONE!!!
Mrs Joyce dose the colours on the tree mean something to the bombing dose it represents anything about the boming ?
Great question Josh, when we see Mrs Sandy or Mrs Sleswick we’ll have to ask. Great to see your comments Josh your definitely making a dent in your chances of winning the weeks comment tally competition.
Yard bombing looks so fun! I would like to try it someday…
When I first heard of it I think last year I though it was a dangerous activity. But since I knew the meaning and more information its not so bad! It brings smilies out in everyone and surprises on peoples yard! I think its a great place to do yard bombing in our language centre because when people drive past it will capture their attention. All these wondering will be flowing through their head. I think we are all inspired by Mrs Price, she is a great example of a true inspiring person and ~Yard Bomber!
Hello Mrs Joyce, I know the messages below doesn’t relate to the yarn bombing, but I thought I’d share with you a new Web Tool we could use.
You may have already heard about it, but it is an amazing website called Dropbox.
Here is a little introduction; Dropbox is a home for all your photos, docs, videos, and files. Anything you add to Dropbox will automatically show up on all your computers, phones and even the Dropbox website — so you can access your stuff from anywhere.
Dropbox also makes it super easy to share with others, whether you’re a student or professional, parent or grandparent. Even if you accidentally spill a latte on your laptop, have no fear! Relax knowing that your stuff is safe in Dropbox and will never be lost.
I think it’s a fantastic way so present our work, save our work and discover other things we can use on Dropbox. If anything happens to a laptop or our Student Drive, we can easily access our work with no struggle. I just thought I was a really cool thing to use, and you should check it out! 🙂
Thanks Anneliese, Dropbox is great. I’ve been thinking about if its appropriate for school. A few things that go along with it. Love your enthusiasm and am missing you in Inquiry. I knw Mr Andrews has said you are working really hard. Thanks for the visit to the blog.
From Mrs Joyce
When I came to school and I saw this I was amazed at how beautiful every thing looks and I wish I could have participated in this amazing activity Wow!!!
I love what what has been done is the Language Centre. But I wanted to know some questions.
1) Why did these people decide to do this?
2) How long did it take to knit all that?
3) Why did you divide to it it at Liddiard Road Primary School at the Language Centre?
I think that yarn bombing is a good way to fill in time and decorate things around your town.
