During religious time the library at the museum is only open if you have an appointment! Other wise you can’t go in to read a book or book an appointment and its quite weird! To have a library at a museum!
Hello mrs Joyce!!!
Here is all the information I found about the history.
The vision of His Highness The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, is to mold the State of Qatar into a capital of culture. Under the umbrella of QMA, the Museum of Islamic Art is the flagship project of His Highness’s vision.
The Museum of Islamic Art, Qatar, is a museum for the world. It will bring the world to Doha, but it will also connect Doha to the world. The Museum of Islamic Art is dedicated to being the foremost museum of Islamic art in the world, and as well a centre of education and information in the field of the arts of the Islamic world. Through the vision of its leadership and the dedication of its staff, the Museum of Islamic Art will manifest this commitment by establishing, preserving, and documenting a collection that reflects the vitality, the complexity, and the diversity of the arts of the Islamic world.
Swords are not used as weapons down at Doha but instead they represent self-expression, historical artefacts and masterpieces of technology and design.
The Museum of Islamic Art is a museum located in the Qatari capital Doha and designed by architect I. M. Pei. The museum’s interior gallery spaces were designed by a team lead by JM Wilmotte of Wilmotte Associes.
Hi Mrs Joyce,
I have fond out that the person that built the Museum of Islamic art was Chinese architect named IM Pei who was summoned to do this and Design it straight away! He was also 86 years old which in my opinion is very terrible because at that age building such a structure is a very hard job for a 86 year old man! But he managed to build it and make it look amazing!
The architecture behind the museum, is to symbolise the royal family of Qatar, to make a bridge from the Middle East to the world, and make a tourist attraction.
Designed I.M. Pei, the Museum of Islamic Art is an architectural masterpiece rising from the sea off Doha’s Corniche. Most of the prices of art are cultural in each country.
This museum is 5 stories used has artefacts and was built by I.M pei. It’s beautiful bricks are strong and related to the sandy landscape in Doha. It’s dome shape design reflects on sunlight to give an effect.
The islamic museum opened on November 22 2008. It is 45,000 square meter compound. The museum is a ziggurat like structure designed to reflect both the traditional and the modernist strains at work in the Middle East. I.M. Pei and Jean- Michel Wilmotte designed the museum. When I.M. Pei was asked to architect the building he went on a cultural journey across the Middle East to feed his inspiration.
The museum is a 45,000 square meter compound 484,000 (sq.ft) that includes a library, restaurants, gift shops and other usual fare of large western museum. The museum opened on October 2008 and immediately became one of the premier cultural destinations.
