Our thoughts are with the families that have lost loved ones in the Oklahoma City Tornado
A MONSTER tornado with winds up to 320km/h and 1.6km across has smashed Oklahoma City, killing more than 90, wiping out entire neighbourhoods, crushing schools and causing pile-ups on highways a residents scrambled for safety.
What is your reaction to this news report?
How would your feel if you lived there and why?
Why do tornados happen?
EryHi mrs joyce,
That tornado was terrible! I am so sorry for all of those people that died while it has been happening. I think the reactions to this news report would be terrifieing to them because in my opinion I think it would he very close to the news reporters bevause i was positive that I herd lots and lots of wind going past them, that is why I think that there tornado was VERY close to them. I would feel absalotly devestated to hear there news if I lived there because if I did live there for a very long time and inew lots of people at that town and found out that one of my bestest mates was injured or even got killed, everyone knows that obviosly when someting that happens like that they woldfeel VERY alone and VERY devistated! Tornados happen I think when cold air and hot air mix together and they turn around and around and makes a form to turn it into a tornado.
Sorry I made a mistake at the start of my coment my bad and I opoligise if it rowined the coment!
I heard about this on the news I absolutely feel sorry for these poor people. Homes and things of there life lost 🙁 I will soon put up some info about it I am kind of in a rush at the moment!

This is awful how could people live like this anymore. They would be scared for lfe because of the what has happened to them, and there familys, i feel discusted because of what this tornado has done to Oklahoma, to me this was like a horra movie.
I feel terrible for those people to have gone thorgh this epic disaster that whould of been horrible the people whould be terrified if they got sucked up.
I feel sad that this tornado happend because it rewined lots of peoples lives, houses, families and many things that are very special to them.
If I live there I would be horrfild and be shacking for along time and I would be sad for all the people
who lost someone in there life
I feel devestated for all the who died and how the tornado formed so big. Worried if any is still trapped and injured from the tornado. Terrified for how big the tornado was and will it ever happen in Traralgon? Horrified to know that others had died or have been injured from the inraged tornado.
My reaction to this news report is I think this tornado is devastating, terrifying and horrifying.I would hate to be there whilst there was a tornado.
If I was there at that momentI would feel petrified and frantic because i would be thinking the tornado is going to suck me up and spit me into another part of the city.
A tornado forms with a rotation of a thunderstorm
Most tornadoes form from thunderstorms. You need warm, moist air from the Gulf of Mexico and cool, dry air from Canada. When these two air masses meet, they create instability in the atmosphere. A change in wind direction and an increase in wind speed with increasing height creates an invisible, horizontal spinning effect in the lower atmosphere. Rising air within the updraft tilts the rotating air from horizontal to vertical. An area of rotation, 2-6 miles wide, now extends through much of the storm. Most strong and violent tornadoes form within this area of strong rotation.
My first reaction when the video started was that my eyes were fixated on the massive noisey tornado. I thought that the person was crazy videoing it because the tornado could of come right up to him. It is unbelieveable that the tornando was big and killed more than 90 people. I thouight that was big than Mrs Joyce said that they had a bigger tornado in 2009. 🙁 I was worried about the people who were around the tornado because they had town distoryed into flat rubble. I wish that we can go and help with the clean up. 🙁
I feelt very very sad?
It would hurt to be them.
I was concerned when I saw the video about the people in the car
My ractions were terrifed because it rip right though a primary school and beacuse it also kill 90 people i hope a differeant tornado doen’s not happien to there lovely town again 🙁
I feelt so afraid seeing the tornado geting so close to People. I was devastated ov the tornado
I can not believe that a tornado is shreading the poor city of Oklahoma to bits and killing poor kids from the little school and the un fortunate people losing their life.
If I was there I would be split into two and one half will go to south Oklahoma and the other side of Oklahoma!!
I wouldn’t know what to do if I was there I would of definatly felt devastated I feel very sad for the people in Oklahoma:(
I feel my heart beating a million times about that town because lots of people got sucked in a tornado going around in circles They will be dropped.
My heart sank down to my stomach I absolutly wanted to help people out of the situation and get them to a safe place.
If I was in a safe place I would cry because people out there would maybe be killed

This my my information about how tornadoes form!
Tornadoes are associated with large (supercell) thunderstorms that often grow to over 40,000 feet. A column of warm humid air will begin to rise very quickly.
1. Air Rotates Because of Wind Shear.
How the column of air begins to rotate is not completely understood by scientists, but one way the rotation appears to happen is when winds at two different altitudes blow at two different speeds creating wind shear. For example, a wind at 1000 feet above the surface might blow at 5mph and a wind at 5000 feet might blow at 25mph. This causes a horizontal rotating column of air.
2. Faster Spin Makes a Funnel Cloud.
If this column gets caught in a super cell updraft, the updraft tightens the spin and it speeds up (much like a skater’s spins faster when arms are pulled close to the body. A funnel cloud is created.
3. The Funnel Rotates and faces Down.
The rain and hail in the thunderstorm cause the funnel to touch down creating a tornado.
A Tornado is also called a twister as well. The rope-like charecter of the Tornado indicatese that it is in its weakwning stag. Tornado look the same around the world. A Tornado is terrifying if your town is been wreaked by a Tornado.
