5/6J it’s time to prepare a Welcome Pack for the students of Belarus.
5/6J you know I interact with teachers through iEARN. Yesterday I found a school in Belarus who was looking for a traveling tourist (teddy) and you know me I volunteered our services. Can you find out anything about the school we will connect with?
Your homework this week to is find out where Belarus is located in the world and what are the major landmarks in the country. You will prepare an information report that will be supported to your Writers Gift.

Mrs Joyce and 5/6j I have found ot some info about Belarus.
Belarus is officially the Republic of Belarus, is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe bordered by Russia to the northeast, Ukraine to the south, Poland to the west, and Lithuania and Latvia to the northwest. Its capital is Minsk; other major cities include Brest, Hrodna (Grodno), Homiel (Gomel), Mahilyow (Mogilev) and Vitsebsk (Vitebsk). Over forty percent of its 207,600 square kilometres (80,200 sq mi) is forested, and its strongest economic sectors are service industries and manufacturing. Their official languages are Belarussia and Russian. Their president is Alexander Lukashenko.

Well I know that Belarus at the left side of Russia just a little off. But it’s really in Europe that’s why it has all sorts of amazing, inspiring and great buildings. I learnt that where Belarus is and that and what Belarus is. I can’t find any historical, famous or any other sort of landmarks but hopefully I can find some later on.

I have found the location of where Belarus! 🙂 Belarus is located dead center in the middle of Europe! Did you know that Belarus is right in the middle of a mega war zone! So lots of people die up at Belarus!
Mir Castle
Mir Castle is on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list. Begun in the 15th century in Gothic style and subsequently rebuilt with Renaissance and Baroque additions before being further renovated in the 19th century, Mir Castle is a pocket lesson in the history of Central European architecture. It has also come to serve as an important national symbol for the country of Belarus as a whole.
Brest Fortress
Brest Fortress currently serves as a memorial to the Soviet Union’s harrowing experience during World War II, when it was invaded by Germany. Originally begun in the 19th century, Brest Fortress was finished just in time for World War I. Two regiments of Soviet forces, caught by surprise, successfully defended the fort for one month in 1941 against an intense barrage of cannon and bombs. The fortress itself is impressive simply in terms of scale, with sprawling red brick left in partial ruins. Lonely Planet advises, “If you are going to see only one Soviet WWII memorial in your life, make it Brest Fortress.
Church of Saints Boris and Gleb
The Church of Saints Boris and Gleb in Hrodna is on the tentative list of sites to add to UNESCO’s World Heritage collection. Also known by the name Kalozha, this church is dedicated to the monks who invented the Cyrillic alphabet. The church was built in the late 12th century and, while it looks unspectacular in person, it is an important representation of early medieval church architecture.
