Check out our Smilebox of Cultural Melbourne, Australia.
Unfortunately Tom couldn’t make the trip to Melbourne today due to an operation he had to have on his ear. His ear fell off and Mrs Pearce is fixing him up. Tom is very loved in the 5/6J grade and I don’t think the students want him to every leave to go home to Germany.

Wow Mrs Joyce,
I think that others who watch the smile box will be amazed. From all the art work on walls and it tells others what we did in Melbourne. I think in Melbourne it will help us with our inquiry witch is the cultual idenity. The imformation is really helpful from in the past like how do other cultures get to Australia and I loved the ship because I think that was more of a fun place but still how hard it was in s the ship with over 1000 people in there. WELL DONE MRS JOYCE!!!!!
I like the smilebox you made Mrs Joyce. I had alot of excitement when I was on the train. The thing that captivated me the most was the graffiti sentance, ” No reason to be scared ”. Because there is lots of ways to think about that deeply like; you can hear the problems from your ears but, what you say, you say with confidence so there is no reason to be scared. 😮
The Immagration Mueseum was a great experiance if you want to despratly kniw miore about the imagration in Australia because they actually know all about the imagration that once existed in Australia.
Oh and it still does! There was pictures in the mueseum in the halway of just random people that tiold their life and what being Australian means to them. I wonder if they got sent to Australia for a better life.
The lunch was a cultural experiance for me. Oh and I just discovered, I like Honey Chicken. 😀 🙂 😀 🙂 I like Asian food now.
Something I learnt was that Almonds (the nut) conme from Turkey. I learnt that you have to interveiw people before you can ship them off. I learnt that the mueseum was actually a great building and had ballrooms.
WOW, I did n’t know that we took that many pictures in one DAY! I think that smilebox is one of the best ways to present our pictures! One of my favourite pictures was al of the griffity in the griffity allys! Those pictures were fabulus! I think the most important picture was the griffityed girl with the writing saying “NO REASON TO BE SCARED”!
This video is very insperational with all the art that we seen and the Immagration Museum was FANTASTIC! they had alot of old things that you would find on a Immagration boat in the olden days and they had an interveiw thing where you can interveiw people that are on a screen and then under that screen they had another screen where you can ask them questions and then tell them wether they can come in or not that was amazing I would so go there again and they had like billboard type of things that have a great meaning like one I can’t quite remember what it said but the meaning of it was like “we let anyone into Australia no matter what” or something like that it was really interesting!.
It looks cool the grafitti. They tryed to come over by plane and boats because the war and the space in the homes.I lerned that ther was a cabins and 10 pelople in 1 bed.
Wow Mrs joyce
l learnt how many people didn’t get into Australia because there had a kid that had something wrong with the kid. the kid will become a burdan and so many people didn’t get in because the people had no money. Because they where sick or they had a disease.
It was inspiring because we looked at all the fantastic arts and I had never been there musium I learntpeople got to come only if the goverment let them they had to have a good enough answer or they had to persuade. I learn’t how people slept in the 1800 hundreds it would of been very squishy and no room.
Wow Mrs Joyce,
I think that the art work on the walls are connected to our learning because I learnt that thay are showing us different ways people show how they feel and what they would say if thay were in a not safe place. I loved the cultrul food because I get the taste of how they cook compared to how we cook in australia. I think the museum is INCREDIBLE because it teaches use how they immegrated and how they had to get in. I learnt that you had to fill out an aplication form to come in. If you are not elligible you can NOT come in.
I learnt that people from all around the world bring food to other countries. I had fried rice witch is made from china. At the musem i that people come to Australia for a new life. And that people don,t get to live in Australia.
The graffitti was really cool and i saw one grafitti pichure that was about war and conflict that pichure was in the grafitti allys and after we looked at the imagration museum and there we saw a silver boat and in the boat the cabins were a bit like the titanics cabins and on the titanic there was a stuffed cat and on the titanic there was about 10 people in one bed.
Wow Mrs Joyce, I learnt all about the old people who want to live in Australia. I how was fantastic because i didn’t no about the grafitti on the walls. it was intresting when I was feeling scared when Iseen the pictcher.
You guys had a great time! I wish I could have tried some of that fantastic food, especially the pasta! I’m sure you learnt lots at the Immigration Museum…those beds didn’t look very comferdable. Amazing graffiti you found in the streets of Melboune. Hopefully soon as I grow better I might go to melboune to experience it like you guys did!!

Hi Mrs Joyce I thought it was Toms tail that fell off?
Guguei his tail fell off last year but last week he lost his ear. He’s had an operation and he’s in perfect health.
Mrs Joyce I had a wonderful time at the immagration museum. I learnt so much about immagration and different cultures. When we went to the museum in the boat section I learnt that the living conditions on the boat was really poor and really small and then it got smaller when they said that there was 1000’s of people that were one tiny boat. There are many different foods in Australia I would love to try some more cultures to learn so much more. When we had to buy our food in Australia on Collins there was so much to chose from so many different things. It was so hard to chose from one. But in the end i chose pasta I love pasta. When we went to the graffiti ally i was so inspired by them i wanted to do one on the wall. My favourite graffiti is https://56jclassroom.files.wordpress.com/2013/03/img_3846.jpg and https://56jclassroom.files.wordpress.com/2013/03/img_3849.jpg I thought they were the most inspirational out of all of the graffiti. The only think I didn’t like was that the ally’s had bins and they smelt of rotten food.
Mrs Joyce in all I loved going to Melbourne and I think Shan Shan and lucky enjoyed it too. It was a shame that Tom couldn’t come and that Ranger hasn’t arrived yet. :(. In summery I think it was great. 🙂
Fabulous post Rennae. I thought the day was a huge success, actually best excursion I’ve been on since becoming a teacher. I can’t wait for Ranger to arrive should be any day 😃
Mrs Joyce I can’t wait either for Ranger to get here I am so exited for him to come and explore Victoria. As for the excursion maybe it is because you had the best group/class in the world because your the best teacher in the world. 🙂
Definitely love this years grade. You guys look after me, you love the blog and we are going to have so many global opportunities. I just love coming to school everyday 😃
I know, our grade is blogtastic, but when Ranger comes it would be so much better. I WANT TO BRING RANGER TO CAMP!
I love coming to school to see you Mrs Joyce and because we have so many opportunities to connect to the world globally. I think that connecting to the world globally will help us with our culture mormorials in inquiry because we learn about the different cultures. :p
