Kanga Visits a Wetlands and Eats BBQ Oyster
Moon Area
You may think I had this picture taken somewhere in Australia. Sorry, you are wrong. They call it Moon Area.
Aogu Wetlands and Forest
Here I am in the Aogu Wetland & Forest Park.
The park, covering a total area of 1,465 hectares, was reclaimed from the sea in the 1960s and transformed into an agricultural site by the state-run Taiwan Sugar Corp. Within the area, it includes the ecological space consists of lagoons, sand bars, fishing farms and beefwood forests.
What is that house for? Let’s go forward and take a look.
A Bird Hide
I don’t know what your answer is but it’s time to check your answer.
It’s a bird hide.
The bird hide is a shelter, often camouflaged, that is used to observe wildlife, especially birds, at close quarters.

Bird Watch
Thank Philip for lifting me up so that I can see through the window of the bird hide.
Black Cormorant
You wouldn’t believe what I see. I see an interesting bird species, Black Cormorant. It can dive to considerable depths, but often feeds in shallow water. It frequently brings prey to the surface. Many fishermen see in the Black Cormorant a competitor for fish. Because of this it was nearly hunted to extinction in the past.
Cormorant fishing is practiced in China, Japan, and elsewhere around the globe. In it, fishermen tie a line around the throats of cormorants, tight enough to prevent swallowing, and deploy them from small boats. The cormorants catch fish without being able to fully swallow them, and the fishermen are able to retrieve the fish simply by forcing open the cormorants’ mouths, apparently engaging the regurgitation reflex.

Welcome on Board
Welcome on board.
This is one of the activities to experience the life in a fishing village. We take the raft in a fish farm to pick seaweed for ourselves. You can take it easy because the area of the fish farm is about the size of a swimming pool and the water is 2 feet in depth.
Seaweed
This is the seaweed I just mentioned. We can take it home.
It ‘s one of the dishes on our lunch table. It tastes like jelly bean which is my favorite.

Fishing for Clams
After picking seaweed by raft, the children walk into the fish farm to fish clams. Well, clams move slowly, you just have to find out where they hide and then pick them up.
Because of my personal body characteristic, I can’t join in them this time.
Souvenir
Those who don’t like to walk into the fish farm can make a one-of-a-kind souvenir for themselves.
Blowfish
You can also go fishing for Ball-fish. Its backup defense mechanism, used if successfully pursued, is to fill its extremely elastic stomach with water (or air when outside the water) until it is much larger and almost spherical in shape.
BBQ Oysters
Oysters are raised for human consumption in the neighborhood. We then cook oyster as the last activity for this wetland tour.
Thank You Chung-Shan Elementary School.
